The science and research supporting this legume continues to improve, making dwarf clovers a natural solution for healthy, dense turf. The [DLF Pickseed Microclover®](http://www.dlfpickseed.com/specialty-products/microclover.aspx) is among the leading products in the dwarf clover industry. It is uniquely developed by the company’s breeders as a tiny white clover packed with all the benefits of a traditional clover. “For low input, more eco-friendly lawns, our Microclover fixes atmospheric nitrogen, which feeds the grass and sustains growth of the clover and the grass,” said Mike Hills, DLF Pickseed’s technical agronomist. “Since the DLF Pickseed Microclover is a true dwarf plant, the clover rarely needs mowing once it is established, another environmental advantage.” Before you or your customers get caught up in the labyrinth of the dwarf clover trend, here are a few things to consider. ### It’s not for every lawn Dwarf clovers, like regular clovers, are delicate. Because of this, these plants work best in low traffic turf areas and under shade. For example, they would work well in: - Tree-lined areas of a golf course - Off-pathway areas in parks - Around planter beds If you have a customer asking about dwarf clovers for their backyard where their kids and pets play, you may suggest a different turf blend. ### Creating an aesthetic appeal [![](https://ewingirrigation-20200354.hs-sites.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Clover-Image-300x300-2.jpg?width=300&height=300&name=Clover-Image-300x300-2.jpg)](https://ewingirrigation-20200354.hs-sites.com/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Clover-Image-2.jpg)The DLF Pickseed Microclover grows in densely and creates lush, naturally green lawns that are easy to maintain. As a small leaf, it can tolerate a low mowing height. It also features an attractive dark green color that’s maintained uniformly over the entire growing season, indicating a strong, healthy turf. For year-round green lawns, DLF Pickseed boasts that its Microclover has been bred to stay green throughout the year. ### Sustainable solution Clovers, like other legumes, convert atmospheric nitrogen into a usable form of natural fertilizer for your grass. Plus, it produces a canopy within the turf that prevents weeds from sprouting. How else is integrating a dwarf clover into your turf environmentally friendly? It’s also drought-resistant and can attract pollinating insects. The root system improves soil texture and works as mulch, effectively retaining moisture in the soil. Ultimately, turf with a dwarf clover blend requires less fertilizer, fungicides and water, and more importantly, less of your attention and time.
