Three Ways to Get Creative with Fire Pits

Looking for outside the box (or in this case, circle) ideas to expand your hardscape business? Below are three tried and true ways to transform an ordinary fire pit, in to an incredible one.

Fire Glass

A fire’s natural glow is brilliant, but why not bring the heat and make it sparkle too? Fire glass is tempered glass that retains heat and intensifies the brilliance of an open flame. PRIMG.Hardscape.Fireglass

Options range from a cool collection of Caribbean blues, to a reflective ebony colored glass.

“Determine the type of fire glass you choose according to what complements the style and space of the fire pit,” said Micah Dennis of Paradise Restored Landscaping. “You want it to be eye catching, and not eye distracting.”

With the proper thought and selection, fire glass is a dazzling addition to any gas fire pit.

Natural Stone Sealant

A natural stone sealant hosts a plethora of benefits for outdoor fire pits. Nick Williams of Cutting Edge Landscape uses sealants to showcase the natural stone featured on some of his fire pits.

“The sealer locks in color and helps keep mildew and moss out of the stone’s pores,” Williams said. “It also guards against UV rays, preventing the colors from fading out as quickly.” PRIMG.Hardscape.FirePit.NaturalStone

A quality sealer will protect natural stone fire pits from corrosives, moss, mold and mildew while giving it a refined, semi-gloss shine. This seemingly small addition will seal out unwanted fungus and condition a fire pit to last through a lifetime of memories.

Pinterest

Finally, don’t be afraid to recommend Pinterest as a resource to help your client create their dream fire pit.

“We encourage our clients to get on Pinterest and put a board together of things that catch their eye,” Dennis said.

Looking at examples of what has been done before can inspire an entirely new idea, or at least help the customer visualize what an idea might look like in real life.

“When clients do some of their own research, they can start developing an idea of what they truly want,” Williams said. “Pinterest, Houzz and Instagram are all great tools.”

Although any style of fire pit has the potential to brighten someone’s home, contractors like Dennis and Williams are bending the boundaries of traditional hardscape. The case study below shares how they use the above products and more to build both their businesses and their client's dream fire pits.
