We learn and accomplish much when we strive to reach our goals, and that knowledge and achievement help us become better individuals. But while the idea of making and completing goals is a simple one to grasp, what about the actual details of how you will make it all happen?
You’ve decided what your goals are. You’re set on completing them. You may face any number of challenges along the way: unexpected delays, unforeseen crises, and more. You may experience personal discouragement, but don’t let it define your progress. If you’re uncertain about what to do next, or feel discouraged, now is the time to change your focus.
There are four steps you can take to accomplish your goals—the Four Rs.
- Remember what your goals are. Clarity equals confidence. The more you know, the more confident you can become in completing your goals.
- Remind yourself why completing your goals is important. How is your goal valuable to you, your organization, or others? Understanding the importance of your goals can help motivate yourself to reach them.
- Review your goals at regular intervals, preferably every day. Don’t tell yourself “When I have time” or “When I’m not too busy.” Study your progress when you complete each step of your goal, to determine what you can improve upon. And review everything you have done upon completing a goal. Focusing on your progress will make each goal’s completion all the more satisfying. Even the small gesture of crossing an item off your to-do list feels good.
- Refresh with new goals for continued success. Take a moment to enjoy the feeling of accomplishment, and move on to the next goal. There is always more we can do.
There they are: four steps to follow as you select and complete your goals. Keep these in mind when you are completing future endeavors.
