While you might think lighting installations can only be a lucrative service in the fall season or Christmas time, you can extend your lighting services throughout the year by pitching event lighting to your customers.
Some holidays, events or seasons lend themselves better to lighting; you just have to know how and when to pitch it. Here’s how:
Spring is wedding season, and backyard weddings strung with beautiful Edison style bulbs are all the rage. Consider offering your services for weddings during the busy season to earn additional revenue.
How to pitch it: Reach out to local wedding venues or even consider tabling a booth at a local bridal show to showcase the beautiful lighting work you can do for their special day.
When to pitch it: Bridal shows and wedding planning often hits its peak in the spring time, so prep for the season early to make sure you’re top of mind when it comes to wedding day lighting.
Memorial Day
The unofficial start to summer brings outdoor pool parties, barbeques and many opportunities for lighting installations projects.
How to pitch it: For your homeowner customers, remind them of all the time they’ll be spending outside and in their backyards for the next few months. Installing landscape and bistro lighting can help them enjoy their outdoor living space well into the late hours of the day on those warm nights.
When to pitch it: Memorial Day is May 28. However, pitching your lighting services for the summer months can be done anytime between the end of April and early June, depending on where you live.
Fourth of July
Each year, the Forth of July is one of the biggest celebrations nationwide. Install red, white and blue bulbs for before and after the fireworks.
How to pitch it: Reach out to restaurants, local parks or other gathering places for this annual event and highlight the importance of having a festive area for local patrons.
When to pitch it: To get ahead of the game, you’ll want to reach out to customers and potential customers a few weeks before the big day.
Halloween
Before the holiday season really kicks off, Halloween is a great time to set up lights to add ambiance to any setting. Whether it’s a house decorated for trick-or-treaters or a local downtown celebrating the fall season, Halloween is filled with opportunities for lighting installations.
How to pitch it: Ask your homeowner customers if they want to have the spookiest house on the block and talk to them about your lighting services and the variety of lighting colors they can choose from. If you’re pitching your services to restaurants or a shopping center, let them know that a more decorated and festive setting can help them bring in more people for any event they may be hosting.
When to pitch it: Most people start decorating for Halloween within the first week of October. Reach out to your customers and potential customers at the end of September to let them know you can help them celebrate.
St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is one of the first holidays of the year that people go out to celebrate or have guests over. In 2018, American’s planned to spend a combined $5.9 billion celebrating the famous Irish holiday, according to the National Retail Federation.
How to pitch it: Pitch a string of green lights for the Irish holiday to restaurants to draw in more patrons on/or around the holiday. Let local restaurants or other commercial/retail operations know that St. Patrick’s Day is a lucrative holiday and dressing up their stores could help bring in more customers. If your customer is a homeowner, ask them if they’re planning to host a St. Patty’s Day party and offer to string up some green lights to help build the atmosphere for their event.
When to pitch it: While St. Patrick’s Day falls on the 17th of March, you’ll want to reach out to customers at the beginning of March. This is often when people start thinking of their St. Patrick’s Day plans.
Keep the party going all year long
You can help your customers celebrate all year long by installing socketed C7 and C9 wire first and separately. Then, offer to change out the bulbs that coordinate to any upcoming holiday or event. This is a simple way to get repeat business on lighting jobs throughout the year.
