Ewing Honored for Community Stewardship Efforts

Ewing Receives Community Stewardship Award for Outreach and Volunteerism Ewing Irrigation and Landscape Supply's vice president of sustainability Warren Gorowitz accepts the Community Stewardship Award on July 20, 2015.

The National Association of Landscape Professionals presented Ewing with its Community Stewardship Award for years of commitment to giving back to the community.

July 31, 2015, PHOENIX, Ariz.—Ewing has been awarded the Community Stewardship Award for its ongoing culture of giving back within the community, sponsored by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP). This award recognizes NALP member companies and organizations that have demonstrated leadership through their dedication and contribution to the good of the community. Winners were recognized at the NALP’s Renewal & Remembrance/Legislative Day on the Hill Banquet Dinner on July 20.

“We look for opportunities to partner with organizations that share our core values of water efficiency, sustainability, wellness and family,” said Douglas York, president of Ewing Irrigation and Landscape Supply.

“Our involvement in service projects allows us to build camaraderie and help boost awareness of the Green Industry—and the many ways in which we (as landscape professionals) enhance the lives of individuals every day where they live, work and play.”

Some companywide projects have included:

  • A total renovation of a military family’s backyard and irrigation system for the PLANET Day of Service.
  • Four regional projects conducted concurrently to complete landscape renovations benefiting Desert Open Space Sustainable Education Center (Mesa, Ariz.), Loaves & Fishes Edible Landscape (Sacramento, Calif.), Housing Hope (Everett, Wash.), and SpiritHorse Therapeutic Riding Facility (Corinth, Tex.).
  • A complete baseball field renovation by 350 employees for Sunshine Acres, a children’s home that provides emotional, social, physical, educational and spiritual support for children that are separated from their parents.
  • A campus wide renovation project for St. Philip The Apostle Catholic School completed by 300 employees with projects including a total field renovation, construction of community garden beds, paver patio installation with lighting and outdoor sound, and complete irrigation system repairs and retrofits.

Ewing Community Outreach In January 2014, Team Ewing surpassed its goal of raising $25,000 for Autism Speaks, with runners raising $30,000 and Ewing donated an additional $20,000, for a total of $50,000 to Autism Speaks, bringing the total to over $200,000 since 2009.

In addition to these projects, employees fundraised over $200,000 for Autism Speaks, allowing them the opportunity to share the culture of giving back with others outside the company.

The York family’s commitment to helping others has been demonstrated by our companywide projects and fundraising efforts, and that commitment has encouraged employees to get involved in their local communities. From building dog beds for a local animal shelter to donating products and installing synthetic turf for a family in need, Ewing employees are helping their local communities across the U.S.
