Last week, Ewing Irrigation joined in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WaterSense program’s Fix a Leak Week movement to help achieve a simple and wildly important goal: fix leaks.

Held each March, Fix a Leak Week encourages Americans to check and replace leaky plumbing fixtures and sprinkler systems, Repairing leaks can help households save more than 10,000 gallons of water per year and as much as 10 percent on utility bills.

We’ve been hard at work promoting water efficiency this month (and every month!):

A Partnership for Smart Controller Rebates. On March 2, Ewing joined SRP for the sixth annual Water Conservation Expo, providing water efficiency education and support to Arizona residents. Team Ewing was on-hand to facilitate the redemption of more than 800 SRP-distributed vouchers for a Rain Bird ESP-SMT smart irrigation controller at an extremely discounted rate of $50.

Ewing Makes a Splash at One for Water Race. On March 9, Team Ewing participated in the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association’s One for Water 4-Mile Fun Run in Peoria, Ariz. The Ewing Team had over 30 runners show their support for water conservation and help spread the Fix A Leak Week message. Ewing’s Warren Gorowitz, vice president of sustainability and conservation, joined Leaky Loo McFlapper—the running toilet—dressed in full costume as Rowdy Rotor, a leaky sprinkler rotor, and ran along side other runners to help encourage them to find and fix leaks in their landscapes.

Ewing Kicks Off Fix A Leak Week. March 18-24 marked Ewing’s fifth year of participation in the EPA’s Fix a Leak Week focused on encouraging water users to check and replace leaky plumbing fixtures and sprinkler systems. Ewing supplied its network of 195 branch locations with a leak detection and repair checklist, with nationwide participation in identifying and repairing leaks, and replacing old fixtures with water efficient devices. Ewing also helped promote Fix a Leak Week with customers, friends and vendor partners throughout the country, and online on Facebook and Twitter.

Consumer Leak Detection & Repair Demonstration and Media Day. On March 20, Ewing joined the City of Phoenix and the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association to host a consumer education event at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix, welcoming local residents and members of the media to attend a leak identification and repair demonstration focused on outdoor sprinkler/irrigation systems. A Ewing water efficiency expert taught attendees how to identify and resolve high-pressure problems; cap off a poly tubing emitter line where there is no longer a plant; repair a lateral line leak; identify and resolve low head drainage problems using a check valve; repair a broken bubbler; and more.
