4 Ways to Give Back to the Troops This Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day when people across the U.S. recognize service members in their community and acknowledge everything they’ve accomplished and sacrificed. There are a lot of great organizations to support our troops and their families.

Families, companies and individuals volunteer year-round to say “thanks” in many different ways. Here’s four ways you can get involved with supporting our troops.

GreenCare for Troops is a nationwide outreach program of Project Evergreen, with support from Toro. It connects local Green Industry professionals with military families who have a parent serving away from home to provide free lawn and landscape services.

Similarly, SnowCare for Troops, with support from BOSS Snowplow, provides free snow and ice removal for families of deployed military and wounded veterans.

If your company would like to get involved and give back to military families, visit the Project Evergreen website for more information and to sign up.

Soldiers’ Angels

Soldiers’ Angels assist veterans, wounded, deployed personnel, and families in all branches of the military with care packages, letters and resources at home and while away. While there are many ways to get involved, you can become an Angel and “adopt” a deployed service member or a letter writer, or you can donate money to help support these programs.

If you STILL have leftover Halloween candy, Solders’ Angels might be able to use it. Learn about Treats for Troops.

PRIMG Event Homes for Our Troops 2013 3 Ewing donated an irrigation controller, drip system and 10,000 square feet of sod and several employees helped at a Home for Our Troops volunteer day in California in 2013.

Homes for Our Troops

Homes for Our Troops is a nationwide organization that helps build specially-adapted homes for wounded veterans to help them rebuild their lives. Each home is built to the special requirements of the veteran and his family. You can help at an event in your area, with monetary contributions, or by donating goods or services to a project. Visit the HFOT website to see all the ways you can help.

Wounded Warrior Project

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) raises awareness and helps wounded service members upon their return home through direct programs and services. There are many ways you—as a company or individual—can get involved in supporting wounded veterans through WWP.

If you have a favorite organization that gives back to service members, let us know in the comments below!
