Once hardscape pavers are installed many people believe the job is done. While pavers are a low maintenance alternative or additional to a traditional landscape, they aren’t no maintenance. To ensure a long life for any paver installation, these two simple steps will prevent you from having to replace pavers for many years.
- Clean the pavers
Every three to five years, pavers need a good cleaning to wash away dirt, grim, oil or other stains. There are a variety of paver cleaners available that can get deep into the pavers to bring back that fresh, new look. For each cleaner available, there are different application methods, such as roll on to spray or spot applications that can be applied depending on the project’s needs.
Start the process by sweeping off with a push broom, followed by wetting the surface and then applying the cleaning solution. Let the cleaner soak in for five to 10 minutes, but do not let it dry on the pavers, so wash it off the area thoroughly quickly after applying it.
- Seal the pavers
After the area is dry, the next step is to seal or reseal the pavers. If the pavers were sealed before, you will need to use a stripper to remove old product.
Start by using a clean pump sprayer and add the sealer to the tank. Then spray the product evenly over the entire hardscape area. The sealer will take a minimum of one hour to dry and will be completely cured and ready for use within 24 hours.
Sealing and resealing hardscapes is an often-overlooked process, but can help maintain that new look and feel of pavers for many years.
