Ewing Turf Experts Provide Solutions to Agronomic Challenges

Responding to the special issues faced by turf care professionals, Ewing’s newly expanded Turf Team delivers support and solutions for turf and ornamental challenges.

August 19, 2011, Phoenix, Ariz.— Superintendents, sports field managers, groundskeepers and other turf managers now have access to more expert help with the expansion of Ewing’s national turf products sales team.

Green Industry professionals in Southern California, Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and the Carolinas will receive support and expert assistance with turf and ornamental products selection, fertility programs, disease management, and pest identification and control. Ewing’s turf specialists will also offer guidance and support with hydroseeding, seed establishment and grow-in, and erosion control.

Ewing is pleased to introduce its newest Turf Team experts:

Don Frantz – Colorado and Utah 

Specializing in golf and sports turf, Don’s scope of experience includes time spent “on the field” serving as a groundskeeper for the Colorado Rockies, Richmond Braves and Kansas City T-Bones baseball clubs. Don forayed into the sales and distribution side of the business in 2008 working for a national landscape supplier before joining Team Ewing. Don focuses on developing a successful, local agronomic and erosion control product offering for the region while providing customers with support and solutions for solving turf problems. Operating out of Ewing’s Commerce City, Colo. location, Don will serve as a resource for turf management professionals in Colorado and Utah.

Jeff Gazaway – Central and Western Oklahoma

Jeff joins Team Ewing with 14 years of experience serving in a variety of capacities, including assistant superintendent at Shawnee Golf & Country Club, State Turfgrass Extension Assistant for Oklahoma State University, and landscape superintendent for the Brickman, LLC, account manager for Total Environment, and owner of Gazaway’s Lawn and Landscape Services. Jeff is intent on serving his customers by offering the highest level of service and the most efficient products available to help solve their daily agronomic challenges. He also offers support for numerous local trade associations.

Lee Smith – San Antonio, Texas

Specializing in golf, landscape and sports turf, Lee Smith joins Ewing with a diverse background that includes time spent serving at the Texas A&M Turfgrass Research Center, Traditions Golf Club, Brookhaven Country Club and Masco Contractor Services. Operating out of Ewing’s San Antonio, Tex. location, Lee will serve as a resource for turf management professionals in the Greater San Antonio, Tex., area.

Cole Swaford – Florida

Cole Swaford is focused on providing a support network for his customers, and enjoys helping them solve problems. His depth of experience includes multiple golf construction projects and time spent serving as east coast territory representative for an agronomic supply company, as well as a broad range of environmental services with Lake Placid-based MTC Environmental, Inc. Cole is also familiar with all facets of golf course grounds management with experience on multiple golf courses, including serving as assistant superintendent of the Old Marsh Golf & Country Club—a Pete Dye 18-hole championship golf course—and as Legend Course superintendent at Ibis Golf & Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus signature championship golf course.

Michael Guran – The Carolinas

With more than 20 years of Green Industry experience, Michael Guran is well versed in turf and ornamental management issues. His experience includes 10 years in golf management for golf courses in Ohio, Florida and North Carolina, as well as 10 years serving as an outside sales representative for a multi-state distributor of nursery and landscape materials. As Turf Products Specialist serving the Carolinas, Michael Guran provides service, product education, and technical support for golf course, sports field, and residential and commercial turf applications.

Ewing’s Turf Team will also assist customers in identifying opportunities to reduce costs and streamline operations using Ewing’s cache of business services and educational programs, including the Ewing Advantage Resource Network (EARN).
