Ewing recently welcomed sports turf industry veteran Tom Burns to its national team of sports field specialists. In his new role, Tom will provide support, service and products to sports turf managers at the professional, college and university, school district, parks and recreation and industry association levels in Texas and surrounding areas.
With decades of sales and groundskeeper experience, Tom joined Ewing following a ten-year stint as a senior sales representative for Diamond Pro, where he managed existing accounts and formed new distributor relationships, trained sales staff and provided education and support for sales staff and end users.
Prior to working at Diamond Pro, Tom served as Director of Grounds for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club in Arlington, Tex., overseeing the playing field and surrounding grounds for 10 years. Before joining the MLB, Tom also spent time in the minor league as a head groundskeeper in both Florida and Arizona.
In 2009, Tom was presented with the Harry C. Gill Award from the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA), the association’s highest award representing a commitment and service to the sports turf industry. Tom has also been named the Florida State League Groundskeeper of the Year five times, the Gulf Coast League Groundskeeper of the Year (1992) and the STMA Baseball Field of the Year (1988).
“With both a former National Football League turf manager and former Major League Baseball field managers on staff, we have the products, resources and knowledgeable employees to partner with and support sports field professionals across the country,” said Troy Smith, Ewing’s National Sports Turf Products Manager.
In August, the Padres’ Luke Yoder joined Ewing, serving sports turf managers in Southern California. Tom and Luke join Ewing’s nationwide team of sports field specialists: Tim Lambert in the Pacific Northwest, Jim Barbuto in Northern California, Chris Sinacori in Arizona, Mike Estlinbaum in South Texas and the central U.S., Jeremy Bohonko in the East Coast and Kevin Scott in South Florida.
