As we start the New Year, I am excited to see how well my irrigation system at home performs on its second year operating with a water conserving Baseline WaterTec S-100 soil moisture sensing device.
Last year during July, the peak water usage time in Fresno, Calif., I was able to irrigate my cool season fescue lawn only eight days in July (twice a week). Having experimented with other ET based control systems at my home the year before, the irrigation system would have watered at least 12 to 15 days.
Turf was planted from seed in November of 2008, and by June 2009, root depth was close to seven inches in a poor sandy clay loam hardpan type soil. MP Rotators helped in achieving deep watering penetration with their low precipitation application rate.
