New Integrated Water Management Seminar to be Launched at CitiesAlive 9th Annual Green Roof and Wall Conference in Philadelphia Nov. 30, 2011
In response to water scarcity in many regions of the US, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, in partnership with the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC), has assembled a group of member experts to develop a series of professional courses on holistic approaches to conserve, produce, harvest, store and utilize water sources in order to be able to provide irrigation water for green roofs and walls in arid climates and water restricted areas.
“The responsible management of our water resources is essential to our future,” said Doug York, President of Ewing Irrigation Products, water management solutions supplier and founding sponsor of the project. “Building quality education programs focused on sustainable products and practices is a critical component of a viable resource management strategy.”
Under the leadership of Lynda Wightman, Hunter Industries, and Jeffrey Bruce, of Jeffrey L. Bruce & Company, the committee is working to advance the state of knowledge and practice on how to capture, treat, store and utilize a wide variety of water sources within, on and around a building and the adjacent site. Comprised of subject matter experts, the committee has focused on enhancing the Integrated Water Management for Buildings and Sites Educational Series by providing more in-depth technical information on real world projects.
“We’re focusing on projects that exemplify integrated site and building water management with a goal of net zero water,” said Jeffrey L. Bruce, Chair of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and President of Jeffrey L. Bruce & Company. The committee has developed the first course in the series, Integrated Water Management for Buildings and Sites, which focuses on the costs and benefits, design and engineering practices, and installation and maintenance requirements of integrated water management. The course will be hosted by Jeffrey L. Bruce in San Diego, Calif., on October 29, 2011, and is also available online through the Living Architecture Academy.
“We are committed to advancing sustainability, and it is clear that our future ability to retain the many positive benefits of vegetation in cities will hinge directly upon the wise use of our water resources in an increasing number of markets in the years ahead,” said Steven W. Peck, Founder and President of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
The new course, focused on case studies, will be unveiled at CitiesAlive 9th Annual Green Roof and Wall Conference in Philadelphia on November 30.
