Ewing, manufacturers and contractors donate landscape products and services to raise funds for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in their own backyard.
May 25, 2016, Phoenix, Ariz.—This spring, the manager at Ewing’s Memphis, Tenn., location has been hard at work securing donations for one of his passion projects, the St. Jude Dream Home in Memphis. Ewing, product manufacturers and customers donated over $10,000 in irrigation, low-voltage lighting, drainage and landscape products and installation work.
“Without people to give back to St. Jude, there would be no St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Without the hospital, there would be no improved survival rates, no chance for cures, no hope. Without giving back, there would be no future,” said Wade Stewart, branch manager of Ewing’s Memphis, location, who spearheaded Ewing’s involvement in the project.
The St. Jude Dream Home in Memphis is one of over 30 around the country this year. Since its inception in 1991, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is one of the largest single-event fundraisers for St. Jude nationwide and has raised more than $290 million. Fundraisers such as this one ensure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food.
Stewart first got involved with the St. Jude Dream Home fundraising project when a prior employer donated services in 2007, and has personally contributed in some way every year since.
On behalf of Ewing, Stewart began reaching out to vendors and customers last fall to secure their support.
Ewing customers and manufacturer partners rallied to donate products and time and labor to help with the St. Jude Dream Home.
Materials supplied by Ewing partners included an irrigation system with water-efficient sprinklers and nozzles from Hunter Industries; PVC pipe (JM Eagle) and fittings (LASCO Fittings, Inc.); and a backflow prevention device from Central Sales Company, Inc. The Dream Home also received a landscape lighting system with fixtures and transformer from FX Luminaire and wiring and connections from Paige Electric, as well as lawn and plant care products from Holganix.
Construction began in April, with an irrigation system installed by Ewing customer Hunter Stroud, Southern Landscape Services, LLC. A low-voltage lighting system was installed by Jesse Wisley, Mid-South Irrigation & Landscape, and Bruce Ewing, Bartlett Landscape Spray.
Residents of Tennessee can participate for a chance to win the Dream Home by buying a ticket for the drawing now until June 19. The drawing will be held on June 26 for the house and other prizes, and the money raised benefits St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Residents of other states may be able to participate in another St. Jude Dream Home in their state.
