Become an Advocate for Saving Water

Elizabeth McCartney - Irrigation Association Senior Policy & Advocacy Manager, Warren Gorowitz - Ewing's VP of Sustainability, and John Farner - Irrigation Association, Government & Public Affairs Director Elizabeth McCartney - Irrigation Association Senior Policy & Advocacy Manager, Warren Gorowitz - Ewing's VP of Sustainability, and John Farner - Irrigation Association, Government & Public Affairs Director

This July, the Irrigation Association celebrates its 11th year of Smart Irrigation Month! Its purpose is to recognize and increase awareness of the value of efficient water use and the growing demand for water saving products, practices and services.

As part of my efforts to support this initiative, for the third year in a row, I was able to persuade the State of Arizona to officially proclaim July as Smart Irrigation Month. I also had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., and meet with my congressional representatives to discuss the importance of efficient irrigation and other related topics.

If you’ve never taken to time to get to know your local political representatives, I would strongly encourage it. As a constituent, your voice is very important and they want to hear from you. By building a relationship with their staffers, you can become a resource for them when questions about irrigation or landscape related topics arise. This also gives you access to them when you want to provide feedback on a particular bill.

To get started, use Contacting the Congress' search tool to find your local congressman.

If you’re interested in becoming a local advocate for irrigation industry related issues, please feel free to reach out to me and I will gladly put you in touch with the appropriate person from the Irrigation Association.
