Thanksgiving is the time of year when Americans reflect on what they have, and often give back to others in many different ways. As a company, Ewing strives to give back to our local communities and the Green Industry as much as possible. Here’s a few ways your company can begin to give back as well.
A community garden can become an integral part of the community. It gives people a place to congregate, work together and create healthier lives.
Many community gardens in your area may be looking for help getting started or renovating. Some need help with irrigation systems, and others could use volunteers in other ways, including planting, harvesting and maintaining the space.
Getting involved in a garden is a great way to get involved in your local community. The American Community Gardening Association has a map you can use to find a garden near you.
2. GreenCare for Troops
GreenCare for Troops is a nationwide outreach program of Project Evergreen, with support from Toro. It connects local Green Industry professionals with military families who have a parent serving away from home to provide free lawn and landscape services.
If your company would like to get involved and give back to military families, visit the GreenCare for Troops website for more information and to sign up.
Adopting a local highway is a great way to gain exposure for your business. When you sponsor a section of the road, your name and/or logo will go on a blue Adopt-a-Highway sign at that stretch. And when you volunteer to clean up that stretch of highway with your coworkers, you have the opportunity to build camaraderie and teamwork, and can even find some pretty cool things people have thrown out the windows!
Depending on your state, the requirements for adopting a highway may vary. Some states have separate sponsor and volunteer programs, and some have the sponsors do the volunteering and cleaning. Check with your state’s Department of Transportation for information.
If you are involved in your community in one of these ways—or in another way—leave us a comment or let us know about it on our Facebook page!
